About CocoaTrust

Better cocoa traceability starts with better first-mile data.

CocoaTrust is being developed as neutral digital infrastructure for smallholder cocoa supply chains in West Africa.

Our purpose is simple: help farmers and programmes create reliable, reusable records that can follow cocoa from mapped farm to downstream market.

The starting point

Useful first-mile information should not have to be recreated for every programme, buyer or standard.

01

Our role

CocoaTrust helps programmes collect, maintain and use dependable first-mile information. It is infrastructure for the people already supporting cocoa farmers, not a replacement for their field knowledge or relationships.

02

Starting point

Better cocoa traceability starts with a reliable farmer record, a mapped farm and clear provenance for the information that follows.

03

Data principle

Capture once. Maintain provenance. Use through authorised workflows. Consent, purpose and origin remain part of the record rather than becoming unrestricted platform data.

04

Neutral infrastructure

CocoaTrust is an implementation and interoperability layer. It is not a national traceability system, certification platform or legal certification authority.

05

Ghana and Nigeria

The platform starts with Ghana and Nigeria, where country-aware workflows can support different administrative geography, programme needs and future integration paths without fragmenting the core record.

06

Interoperability

A shared canonical record can support authorised exchanges with national systems, standards and responsible commercial workflows over time—without repeatedly rebuilding the farmer record.

A focused beginning

Ghana and Nigeria, with a foundation for more.

The first use case is gathering the information and evidence needed for downstream EUDR due diligence. The architecture is designed to evolve for national requirements, sustainability standards, buyer programmes and human-rights workflows.

That does not make CocoaTrust a government system or legal certifier. It makes the first mile more legible, maintainable and ready to connect where authorised.
